Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Eligibility & Requirements
Q: I’m interested in hosting a screening, but I have no prior experience. Is that okay?
A: Absolutely. All you need are "companions," a "venue," "audience recruitment," "screening equipment," and, most importantly, "passion." Our screening coordinator will provide maximum support via email and other channels to ensure even first-time hosts can organize an event with confidence. For more details, please refer to the "How to Host a Screening" section.
Q: Is it possible to hold screenings outside of Japan?
A: Yes, screenings can be held anywhere in the world! While we are currently focusing on North America, we support international hosts with a tiered fee system based on each country's cost of living. We can also flexibly accommodate requests for subtitles in various languages, such as French and Chinese.
Q: Can we host a small event for about 20 people?
A: Yes, there is no minimum requirement for the number of attendees. However, please keep in mind that the flat screening fee and other expenses (such as venue rental) will still apply, so please plan your budget carefully.
Q: Can political parties or religious organizations host a screening?
A: There are no restrictions on the nature of the host organization. This film is a philosophical narrative intended to encourage dialogue from diverse perspectives, and we enthusiastically support screenings by all types of groups. However, please understand that as a film distribution company, we reserve the right to decline an application should unavoidable circumstances arise.
2. Venue & Scheduling
Q: Can a screening be held anytime and anywhere?
A: If another screening is scheduled within the same municipality within a two-week window, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. (This does not apply to "private/invite-only" screenings or events with a target audience of fewer than 100 people.)
Q: What kind of venue is suitable for the screening?
A: Please choose a venue equipped with a projector, screen, and sound system, and one that can be fully darkened (blacked out). We especially recommend independent cinemas or event halls capable of Blu-ray playback. Furthermore, as this film features a 5.1-channel surround sound mix, we highly recommend choosing a hall with a surround sound system to provide the best possible experience for your audience.
Q: Can I change the venue or date after submitting my application?
A: Yes, it is possible. Please contact our office as soon as any changes are decided.
3. Technical & Rights
Q: Is a technical check (playback test) required before the event?
A: Yes, it is mandatory. Please perform a full playback test using the actual player and equipment you will use on the day of the event.
Q: Are accessibility subtitles (SDH) available?
A: While we do not currently have a dedicated Japanese accessibility subtitle track, we can discuss specific needs for English subtitles or other language adjustments based on your venue's requirements. Please consult with us at the time of your application.
Q: When and how should I return the screening media?
A: Please return the media (Blu-ray/DCP) via a trackable courier service within one week after the screening. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the host.
Q: Can I host an online screening or a live stream?
A: Live streaming or online distribution of the film itself is strictly prohibited due to copyright protection. However, it is permissible to live stream only the post-screening "Talk Session" or Q&A.
4. Promotion, Recruitment, & Fees
Q: Can we reach out to the media for coverage?
A: We encourage it! Local newspapers, free magazines, and community radio stations are highly effective. Please feel free to reach out to various media outlets.
Q: Can you print our specific event details (date/time/location) on the flyers we purchase?
A: We apologize, but specific event details must be added by the host. While this can be done via handwriting, stamps, or local overprinting, we recommend using our free digital data templates for larger quantities.
Q: Do we add the event information ourselves when using the free digital data?
A: Yes. We provide original PDF and Adobe Illustrator files so you can freely layout the venue, date, time, and admission fees.
Q: Can we set our own ticket prices? Also, how do we handle taxes?
A: You are free to set your own ticket prices. Regarding taxes (GST/HST, consumption tax, etc.), regulations for tax exemption vary depending on the host's status (Individual, NPO, Corporation) and local laws. To avoid any issues, we strongly recommend consulting with a local accountant, tax authority, or your venue coordinator in advance.
5. Risk Management & Troubleshooting
Q: What happens if there is a threat of interference or a disturbance on the day?
A: Ensuring the safety of the venue is primarily the responsibility of the host. We recommend coordinating with venue management and taking preventive measures, such as requiring pre-registration/reservations or requesting increased patrols from your local police station.
Q: If we are forced to cancel due to disturbances, can we get a refund?
A: If a screening is cancelled at the host's discretion, we generally cannot offer a refund for the screening fee. However, we will work with you flexibly to find a solution, such as rescheduling the event for a later date.
Q: Can attendees take photos and post them on social media?
A: Photography, audio recording, and video recording of the film itself are prohibited by law. Please announce this to the audience before the screening starts. However, photos of the post-screening talk, venue posters, and photo spots are highly encouraged for social media sharing!
Q: Is there a cancellation fee?
A: Once the screening materials have been shipped, the full screening fee will be charged even if the event is cancelled. If the cancellation occurs before shipping, we can flexibly accommodate date changes. Please refer to our terms and conditions regarding the refund policy for your deposit.
