How to Host a Screening

1. Form Your Team

Gather like-minded volunteers who share the passion to host a screening. It is highly recommended to clearly designate a team leader at this stage.

2. Plan Your Event

Determine the format of your screening. Will it be a standalone film screening, or will it include a guest lecture, a post-screening networking session, or a private viewing for a specific group? You should also identify the necessary costs and how to cover them (e.g., ticket sales, local sponsorships, or crowdfunding).

3. Set the Date and Time

Decide on the date, the number of screenings per day, and the exact start times. The film's runtime is 134 minutes. Please ensure your schedule allows enough time for the screening and any additional programs.

4. Select a Venue

Identify a venue with the necessary equipment (projector, sound system, and screen). Publicly managed community halls are often available at lower rates. Check the seating capacity and availability. We recommend making a tentative reservation first and finalizing the booking once your plan is set.

5. Choose Your Screening Media & Confirm Rights

Consult with the venue staff to decide on the appropriate media format: Blu-ray or DCP. Please contact our office regarding your specific needs for subtitles (e.g., English, French).

[IMPORTANT: Public Performance Rights]

The screening media provided by our office includes Public Performance Rights (PPR) for the specified location and date only. Please be advised that the use of personal discs, streaming services, or unauthorized screenings at different times/locations is strictly prohibited by law.

6. Determine Admission Fees

Decide whether the event will be free or paid. In addition to fixed ticket prices, some hosts adopt a "Donation-based" system to fund future activities or charitable causes.

7. Prepare Promotional Materials

We provide the digital design data for free if you wish to produce your own promotional materials. [Details Here]

8. Application

Please submit your application through this form. After we review your request, we will send you instructions regarding the deposit payment. Your booking and contract will be officially confirmed upon receipt of the deposit.

9. Event Preparation

  • Seek Endorsements/Sponsorship: To boost attendance and credibility, we recommend reaching out to local organizations that resonate with the film’s themes for their support or endorsement.

  • Promotion: "Grassroots" promotion—such as placing flyers in local shops and announcing the event at community meetings—is highly effective. Most hosts also utilize social media (Facebook, X/Twitter, etc.) to spread the word.

  • Ticket Sales: For paid events, tickets are commonly sold through direct sales to friends, online platforms like Eventbrite, or through local ticket agencies.

10. Security & Risk Management

  • Legal Threats and "Discrimination" Claims: You may receive legal demand letters claiming that the screening constitutes "discrimination against a specific race" and demanding its cancellation. However, criticizing the Chinese Communist Party or its General Secretary is fundamentally different from racial discrimination. We encourage you to remain calm and address such claims through reasoned, logical discourse.

  • Physical Disruptions and Safety Measures: It is possible that individuals may be sent to your venue to disrupt the screening. To prevent potential risks and ensure the safety of all attendees, we strongly recommend that organizers implement ID verification and bag checks at the entrance.

  • Other Cases
If any other issues arise, please contact us immediately. We will work with you to find the best way to handle the situation.

11. Screening Day!

Our office will send the screening media to you approximately one week before the event. You must perform a technical check/rehearsal at the venue as soon as it arrives to ensure there are no issues with the media or equipment. On the day of the event, your team will handle venue setup, reception, ushering, the screening itself, and emceeing.

12. Post-Screening

Please submit a Screening Report and return the screening materials (Blu-ray/DCP) to our office within one week after the event.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
